The council's stated direction
Lane Cove's direction is set out in its Community Strategic Plan, 'Liveable Lane Cove 2035' (revised and adopted June 2025), delivered through a Delivery Program and Operational Plan 2025/26–2028/29 with an annual budget.
The council manages local roads, waste, libraries, parks and planning across one of Sydney's smallest and most densely settled LGAs, on the Lower North Shore beside the Lane Cove River. Its Delivery Program is the elected council's statement of commitment for its term, with growth concentrated in the St Leonards / Crows Nest corridor shared with neighbouring councils.
The Delivery Program funds the council's annual capital works program alongside its Revenue Policy and Fees & Charges. A new weekly food-waste collection service is being rolled out from 2026.
Underway now
New weekly food-waste service
Bins from Feb 2026; weekly collections from 16 Mar 2026Lane Cove is introducing a separate weekly food-waste service. From February 2026 stand-alone houses receive a maroon-lid food-waste bin, a kitchen caddy and compostable liners, with weekly collections starting 16 March 2026; townhouses, units and apartments can opt in from 2027. The council keeps food and garden waste in separate streams rather than a single combined FOGO bin.
St Leonards South precinct
Rezoned precinct; development applications ongoingThe St Leonards South residential precinct — bounded by Canberra Avenue, Park Road, Marshall Avenue and River Road — is a rezoned area planned for higher-density housing near the St Leonards / Crows Nest transport corridor. The council runs a community liaison group and publishes the precinct's development applications as they progress.
