Waste & recycling

When your bins go out, and how Lachlan Shire handles recycling and waste across a shire of nearly 15,000 km². Kerbside collection is not shire-wide: council runs it inside the Domestic Waste Collection Zones of Condobolin, Lake Cargelligo, Albert, Fifield, Derriwong, Tullibigeal, Murrin Bridge and Tottenham. Inside those zones the red-lidded garbage bin is collected weekly, and the yellow-lidded recycling bin fortnightly on the same day (Week A or Week B). Condobolin households also have a green-lidded organics bin, collected fortnightly on the week that alternates with recycling. Properties outside the collection zones self-haul to one of council's five landfills. Council asks that bins be out before 5.30am, or the night before.

Bin collection at a glance

General waste (red lid)
WeeklyCollected weekly in the Domestic Waste Collection Zones of Condobolin, Lake Cargelligo, Albert, Fifield, Derriwong, Tullibigeal, Murrin Bridge and Tottenham. Bin contents must not exceed 70kg. If your bin has not been serviced by 3.00pm on your collection day, contact council on (02) 6895 1900.
Recycling (yellow lid)
FortnightlyServiced on alternate weeks (Week A or Week B), on the same day as your garbage bin. Council publishes a collection calendar and map for Condobolin, one for Lake Cargelligo, and a combined 'Township Calendar' for Tottenham, Albert, Fifield, Derriwong and Tullibigeal.
Food & garden organics (green lid)
Condobolin only — fortnightlyCouncil states the organics (green lid) bin is serviced for Condobolin residents only, on the week that alternates with the recycling bin and on the same day as the other bins. Households elsewhere in the shire do not have a green bin; council's 'Other Waste and Recycling Options' page covers home composting, worm farming and backyard poultry instead.
Bulky / hard waste
No kerbside collection — free tip disposal for domestic loads up to 3m³There is no scheduled kerbside bulky-waste collection. Council advises that domestic waste disposal at all of its waste facilities is free for loads up to three cubic metres per visit; commercial waste, tyres and asbestos are excluded and charged per the Fees and Charges schedule. Council also runs periodic 'dump for free weekends'.
Problem waste & drop-off
Condobolin Community Recycling Centre, Boona Road, CondobolinAn EPA-funded Community Recycling Centre operates at the Condobolin Waste Facility for household problem waste (e.g. gas bottles, paints, chemicals, batteries) — free, year-round, within the facility's opening hours. Asbestos is accepted at the Condobolin and Lake Cargelligo facilities only, with a booking required for large amounts. Council also advertises annual Household Chemical CleanOut and ChemClear events.

Kerbside collection reaches the towns and villages inside council's Domestic Waste Collection Zones — Condobolin, Lake Cargelligo, Albert, Fifield, Derriwong, Tullibigeal, Murrin Bridge and Tottenham. This is a shire of about 6,100 people spread over roughly 15,000 km², so many rural properties are outside those zones and use council's landfills at Condobolin, Lake Cargelligo, Tullibigeal, Tottenham and Burcher instead. Frequencies, facility hours and fees can change — confirm on the official sources below.
