Waste & recycling

When your bins go out, and how Kyogle Council handles recycling and waste across Kyogle, Geneva, New Park, Wiangaree, Grevillia, Woodenbong, Muli Muli, Bonalbo, Tabulam and Mallanganee. Council replaced its old split-bin service with a three-bin service on 3 July 2023: a green-lidded 240L food-and-garden-organics (FOGO) bin collected weekly, plus a yellow-lidded 240L recycling bin and a red-lidded 140L landfill bin collected fortnightly on alternate weeks (both on the same day as the weekly green bin). There is no kerbside bulky-waste pickup — instead ratepayers get a waste voucher to use at the council's landfill or village transfer stations. Collection days run by town, and the council publishes a downloadable yearly calendar and street list.

Bin collection at a glance

General waste (red lid)
Fortnightly — 140L standardCollected on alternate weeks to the yellow recycling bin, on the same day as the weekly green bin. An optional upgrade to a 240L red bin is available for an extra charge (2026/27: $882 for the upgraded three-bin set, vs $729 for the standard set). Bins have a 60kg weight limit and must be out before 5am.
Recycling (yellow lid)
Fortnightly — 240LAlternates with the red landfill bin. Council's kerbside contractor is Solo Resource Recovery, using side-loading trucks, so bins need clear access away from cars and trees.
Weekly — 240LIntroduced with the three-bin service on 3 July 2023. Rural properties outside the town and village limits of Kyogle, Wiangaree, Grevillia, Old Grevillia, Woodenbong, Muli Muli, Bonalbo, Old Bonalbo, Tabulam and Mallanganee can opt out of the organics service, or out of kerbside collection entirely.
Bulky / hard waste
No kerbside collection — a waste voucher for the tip insteadUnder the voucher system revised in July 2025, ratepayers receive a $50 voucher usable at the Kyogle landfill or any village transfer station, either in one ute-and-trailer load of general waste or across several smaller loads (council staff track the balance). The 2026/27 Operational Plan describes the voucher attached to the Waste Management Service Charge as covering disposal of up to 300kg. Asbestos, hazardous waste and dead animals cannot be disposed of using a voucher, and unused value is not redeemable for cash. Confirm current terms with council.
Problem waste & drop-off
Community Recycling Centre, Kyogle Landfill Facility, Runnymede Road, KyogleFree year-round drop-off for paint, gas bottles, motor and other oils, car and household batteries, smoke detectors, fluorescent globes and tubes, and fire extinguishers. Two Community Recycling Stations (Kyogle Library and Bonalbo Community Hall) take small quantities of alkaline batteries, printer cartridges, mobile phones, compact fluoro globes and eyewear. Kyogle Together runs a Tip Shop at the landfill. Village transfer stations: Bonalbo (Wed & Sat 9am–4pm), Mallanganee (Thu & Sun 9am–4pm), Woodenbong (Tue & Sat 9am–4pm); Kyogle landfill Mon–Fri 7.30am–12 noon, Sat & Sun 9am–4pm.

As at August 2026 the council's waste page states that the Kyogle landfill cell that holds general waste was seriously damaged in the Cyclone Alfred weather event and is under repair, so the landfill is accepting only small quantities of household general waste (and no bulky household, commercial or industrial waste) while council trucks its waste out of the area; co-mingled recyclables, green waste, scrap metal, tyres, fridges and Community Recycling Centre items are unaffected. All council waste facilities close on public holidays and the council's Union Picnic Day. Frequencies, charges and facility hours can change — confirm on the official sources below.
