The council's stated direction
Knox's direction is set by its Community Vision 2035 and the Council and Health and Wellbeing Plan 2025–2029, which combines the Council Plan with the municipal public health and wellbeing plan. The council adopted it in June 2025, and each year's budget carries out the next set of actions.
The plan has six themes, each with a strategic objective: enhancing community connection to vital services and resources; embracing connection, inclusion and diversity; caring for and enhancing our environment; leading, listening and governing responsibly; being a strong voice for safety; and planning our future city.
The 2026–27 budget, adopted on 22 June 2026, commits $130.8 million to services and $54.6 million to capital works, including $20.3 million on roads, bridges, footpaths and paths. New items named by the council include a winter shelter program, an Australia Day event, an extra recycling collection over Christmas and New Year, and an emergency relief fund for not-for-profit groups raised to $150,000.

Carrington Park upgrades, Knoxfield
Pavilion upgrade under way in 2026A major upgrade of the pavilion, supported by a $1.8 million Australian Government funding commitment, with female-friendly change rooms, better disability access, public toilets and club spaces. A new basketball key, outdoor gym and public toilet are finished, and the sportsground is set for renewal. The 2026–27 budget includes $3.6 million for the pavilion and $2.5 million for the sports field.

Recycling bin lids changing from blue to yellow
From 20 July 2026The last of Knox's bin-lid changes to match the state's standard colours, after rubbish lids went from yellow to red in 2025. More than 60,000 lids are being changed; residents leave recycling bins out until 6pm on collection day until theirs is done.
Local road reconstructions
2026–27, finishing early 2027Reconstruction of 470 m of Acacia Avenue, Upper Ferntree Gully, is under way, followed by Borg Crescent (Scoresby), Sasses Avenue (Bayswater) and Hakea Place (Rowville). Cathies Lane (Wantirna South) and Shannon Avenue (Ferntree Gully) are listed for 2027.

Integrated Transport Strategy
Consultation open until 25 October 2026The council is asking how people get around Knox, to shape a draft Integrated Transport Strategy and its advocacy to the Victorian and Australian governments on main roads and public transport.
