Elections & voting

Victorian council elections are held every four years, and all voting is by post. The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) mails a ballot pack to every enrolled voter. Voting is compulsory for people on the state roll, and you may be fined if you don't vote. Knox elects one councillor for each of its 9 wards.

How Knox votes
9 wards, one councillor each; preferential countEvery ward was contested in 2024. The Mayor is chosen by the councillors, not by voters. The VEC last reviewed Knox's electoral structure in 2015.
Dobson Ward recount
Ordered by VCAT on 9 December 2024The VEC says the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal ordered a recount of the Dobson Ward results under section 312(3) of the Local Government Act 2020, and that the recount results replaced the ones first declared in November 2024. After the recount, Meagan Baker is the declared candidate.
If a seat falls vacant
By-electionIn a single-councillor ward, a vacancy with more than 6 months of the term left is filled by a by-election. There has been none in Knox since 2024.
