Mayor & councillors

Indigo Shire is unsubdivided: there are no wards, and all seven councillors are elected by the whole Shire, by proportional representation, at the four-yearly Victorian council elections (last held in October 2024). The councillors elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor from among themselves at the annual Statutory Meeting.

Who represents you

Mayor
Cr Sophie PriceAt the Statutory Meeting on 19 November 2024 the council set a two-year mayoral term, which the council's November 2025 minutes say expires in November 2026. Cr Price's council profile says she was first elected in 2016 and was also Mayor from 2022 to 2024. She lives in Barnawartha.
Deputy Mayor
Cr Jane DowsleyElected Deputy Mayor unanimously at the Statutory Meeting on 25 November 2025, for one year (the council's Governance Rules set a one-year deputy term).
Councillors
7, elected Shire-wide (no wards)Cr Greg Bourke, Cr John Harvey, Cr Roberta Horne, Cr Scott Landells and Cr Diane Shepheard, plus the Mayor and Deputy Mayor. The Victorian Electoral Commission lists the same seven (checked September 2026).
Next mayoral election
Statutory Meeting, Tuesday 17 November 2026Victorian mayors are elected by the councillors, not by voters. Both the Mayor's and Deputy Mayor's terms end at this meeting.
Council meetings
Generally the fourth Tuesday of the month, 6.30pm, Council Chambers, 2 Kurrajong Way, Mayday Hills, BeechworthRemaining 2026 dates: 29 September, 27 October, 17 November (Statutory), 24 November and 15 December. Meetings are open to the public and livestreamed. Questions for Open Forum must be submitted in writing by 5pm on the day of the meeting.

Chief Executive Officer
Trevor Ierino — resigning, effective February 2027Announced by the council on 27 July 2026, after almost nine years as CEO. The CEO is appointed by the councillors.
