The council's stated direction
Hunter's Hill Council's direction is set out in its Community Strategic Plan and a Delivery Program 2025–2029 with an annual Operational Plan and budget. As the smallest NSW LGA by area with a small rates base, financial sustainability is a recurring theme alongside heritage conservation and the foreshore environment.
The council manages local roads, waste, parks, foreshore and bushland reserves, heritage and planning across a compact harbourside peninsula on Sydney's Lower North Shore. Its Delivery Program is the elected council's statement of commitment for its term, reported against publicly every six months.
The Delivery Program includes a four-year financial outlook and the 2026–27 Annual Budget. With a small rates base, the council has previously sought IPART-approved special rate variations to support its financial sustainability.
Underway now
FOGO (Food Organics and Garden Organics) service
Commenced 6 July 2026The council's green bin became a combined food-and-garden (FOGO) service from 6 July 2026 — food scraps as well as garden waste — collected weekly on the same day as the red general-waste bin, replacing the former garden-organics-only service. Delivered by the council's waste contractor, URM. NSW mandates FOGO for all households by 2030.
