Mayor & councillors

Hobsons Bay has 7 councillors. Each one represents a single ward: Altona, Altona Meadows, Altona North, Laverton, Spotswood, Williamstown or Williamstown North. All 7 were elected in October 2024 for the 2024–2028 term. Voters don't elect the Mayor directly: the councillors choose one of themselves each year. The next vote for Mayor and Deputy Mayor is at the Council Meeting on Friday 13 November 2026.

In January 2026 the council announced a second monitor, Rebecca McKenzie, with both serving from 1 January to 30 June 2026 (council news, 7 January 2026). We found no announcement of an extension on the council's site as at September 2026. A new chief executive, Phu Nguyen, started in January 2026.

Your representatives

Want to raise something? Contacting your ward councillor or the mayor is one of the most direct ways to be heard between elections.

Victorian council ballot papers and results don't show party affiliation, so we don't label councillors. We list who holds office, with their council email addresses and official profiles, and link to the election results. Councillors can also be reached through the council on 9932 1044 during business hours. If a seat falls vacant, Hobsons Bay's single-councillor wards fill it by a by-election, not a countback, as long as more than 6 months of the term remain.
