Waste & recycling

When your bins go out, and how Hilltops Council handles recycling and garden waste. The main residential areas — Young, Boorowa, Harden-Murrumburrah, Galong and Koorawatha — have a three-bin kerbside service: a red-lid general-waste bin collected weekly, a yellow-lid recycling bin collected fortnightly, and a light-green-lid garden-organics bin collected fortnightly on the alternate week. The green bin is garden organics only — Hilltops doesn't run a combined food-and-garden (FOGO) service (the NSW-wide FOGO mandate is 2030). Kerbside services were standardised across the towns during 2025, with green-waste bins rolling out to Boorowa and Koorawatha from 1 October 2025. Many smaller villages and rural properties don't have a kerbside collection and use the transfer stations instead. To find your collection day, use the sources below or call the waste hotline.
