Waste & recycling

What you get depends on where you live. Homes in the townships of Clunes, Creswick, Daylesford, Hepburn, Hepburn Springs and Trentham have three bins: a lime-green-lid food and garden organics bin collected every week, and a red-lid rubbish bin and a yellow-lid recycling bin, each collected every second week. Rural properties with a kerbside service have a rubbish bin and a recycling bin, both collected every second week, plus tip vouchers. Put your bins out the night before, or by 6am on collection day.

Rubbish (general waste)

Food and garden organics (FOGO)
Weekly — lime-green lid (120 L), township homes onlyStarted in April 2024. All food scraps and garden cuttings, with no bags of any kind (not even compostable ones). The material is composted at the Creswick Transfer Station. Township households can't opt out. Rural properties don't have a FOGO bin; they can drop off food organics at the transfer stations for a small charge.Your organics bin explained →
Glass
In the yellow-lid recycling bin for nowState law requires every Victorian council to offer a separate glass service by 1 July 2027. In February 2026 the council resolved to delay decisions on expanded kerbside services until the Victorian Government finalises its service standards and the current kerbside contract ends (July 2028). It is part of a group of councils asking the state to delay the 2027 deadline and consider alternatives such as glass drop-off points and adding wine and spirit bottles to the Container Deposit Scheme.Council's glass page →
Transfer stations (tips)
Daylesford (16 Ajax Rd) — every day except Wednesday, 9am–4.50pm; Creswick (Ring Rd) — Mon, Thu, Fri 12–4.50pm and Sat–Sun 9am–4.50pm; Trentham (145 Blackwood Rd) — Wed, Sat and Sun 9am–4.50pmLast entry 4.50pm. Closed on Christmas Day, Good Friday, Total Fire Ban days and days rated Extreme or Catastrophic fire danger. Tip vouchers
Rural homes: 2 a year with a kerbside service, 12 a year without oneTownship homes don't get vouchers. Vouchers are held digitally: bring proof of address, such as your rates notice. Each covers 0.5 cubic metres of rubbish, recycling or green waste, or one mattress, and they expire on 30 September each year.Voucher details →

Find your bin day

Lid colours, bin sizes and frequencies are as the council lists them. The council describes the rubbish bin as red-lidded 'or dark green', because older bins remain in use. We found no regular hard waste service on the council's site; re-check before relying on it. The glass arrangements may change before the state's 1 July 2027 deadline.
