Report a problem to the council
The quickest way to get something fixed in Hay, Booligal or Maude — a pothole, dumped rubbish, a bin that wasn't emptied — is to tell the council directly. Hay Shire does not run a general online 'report a problem' form: the council's administration centre at 134 Lachlan Street takes reports by phone and email, and it also points residents to Snap Send Solve for photo-based reports. Below is where each type of issue goes, including the ones that are somebody else's responsibility.
How to report it
- Report to the council (official)
- (02) 6990 1100 or mail@hay.nsw.gov.auHay Shire Council administration centre, 134 Lachlan Street, Hay — open Monday to Friday, 9.00am–4.00pm. Covers roads, footpaths, drainage, parks, water and sewer, waste, animals and public health.
- Urgent / after hours
- Call (02) 6990 1100 and follow the promptsThe council's page for after-hours assistance directs callers to the administration office number and its recorded prompts for the relevant enquiry.
- One app for any council
- Snap Send SolveAn independent app that routes a photo report to the responsible council or authority. Council links to it from its Customer Service Centre page. Not run by the council.
- Missed or unemptied bin
- (02) 6990 1100 or mail@hay.nsw.gov.auIf a 'Non-collection Notice' sticker has been left on your bin, the driver could not empty it — the sticker states why. Council introduced the stickers in January 2025.
- Not always the council's job
- Faulty street lights → Essential EnergyEssential Energy is the electricity distributor for the Riverina and far west; council's Customer Service Centre page links directly to Essential Energy's streetlight fault form.
- Bush fire hazards and native animals
- Fire hazard 1800 679 737 · RFS Fire Control Centre (02) 6966 7800 · snakes and other native animals: NPWS Hay office (02) 6990 8200The statutory Bush Fire Danger Period in Hay Shire runs 1 October to 31 March, when a fire permit is required to light a fire.
For urgent safety hazards, call rather than emailing. Snap Send Solve is an independent third-party app (not run by the council) that routes your report to the responsible authority.
