Greater Hume Shire Council
Area profile

Area profile

A quick snapshot of Greater Hume, drawn from official ABS estimates and the NSW Government's council data. Greater Hume is a large rural LGA in the Riverina, straddling the Hume Highway and the Sydney–Melbourne railway just north of Albury and the Victorian border, with no single dominant town — its population is spread across several small centres. It was formed in 2004 from the merger of Culcairn Shire, most of Holbrook Shire, and part of Hume Shire, with an economy built on agriculture (cropping and livestock).
