Waste & recycling

How Frankston's household bins work today. The general waste bin (red lid) is collected every week. The mixed recycling bin (yellow lid) and the food and garden waste (FOGO) bin (green lid) are each collected fortnightly, on alternate weeks. The glass bin (purple lid) is collected every 4 weeks. All bins go out on the same weekday, and collections continue on public holidays. The lid colours are Frankston's own description. Bin collection at a glance

General waste (red lid)
WeeklyThe standard size is 80 or 120 litres, depending on your service. Put bins out by 6am on collection day, or the night before.
Mixed recycling (yellow lid)
FortnightlyGlass no longer goes in this bin: it has its own purple-lid bin. Plastic and metal lids from glass jars and bottles go in the yellow bin.
Food and garden waste — FOGO (green lid)
FortnightlyThe council's four-bin page says every household with a council general waste service must have received a FOGO bin by 1 July 2026, and the budget adopted on 11 May 2026 folds the FOGO charge into the standard waste charge. You can opt out only by application, if you show you compost at home. The council's FOGO page still describes it as an optional 'user pays' service. Glass (purple lid)
Every 4 weeksFrankston introduced separate glass bins in October 2023 (80 litres standard). Glass bottles and jars only, with lids removed: no drinking glasses, mirrors, window glass, Pyrex or ceramics. There is no separate charge for the glass bin.Glass recycling bin →
Hard waste
1 free collection a year, up to 2 m³For homes with a paid council bin service, once each financial year, in a collection week set for your area: search your address to find it. Items must be out by 6am on the Monday of that week. You can also book a paid collection (up to 2 m³, collected on a Monday) at any time of the year.Find your hard waste week →
Drop-off
Frankston Regional Recycling and Recovery Centre (FRRRC), 20 Harold Road, SkyeOpen 7 days, 8am–4pm (closed Christmas Day and Good Friday). Many items are free or low-cost, and Frankston residents get discounted hard waste rates; bring your driver's licence as proof of residency.
