Waste & recycling
When your bins go out, and how Dungog Shire handles waste and recycling across Dungog, Clarence Town, Paterson, Vacy, Gresford, East Gresford, Martins Creek and the rural localities in between. Council runs a two-bin kerbside service under contract with J R Richards & Sons: a red-lidded 240-litre general-waste bin collected weekly, and a yellow-lidded 240-litre recycling bin collected fortnightly on the same day. There is no green food-and-garden-organics (FOGO) bin here — green waste is handled instead through a periodic kerbside green-waste clean-up in the town areas and through the Dungog Waste Management Facility. The kerbside service is provided to properties on or adjacent to a tarred road and some gravel roads; bins need to be out by 6.00am. Your collection day is on the council's annual collection calendar, linked below.

Instead the council periodically runs a kerbside green-waste-only clean-up for residential premises inside the signposted town areas of Clarence Town, Dungog, East Gresford, Gresford, Martins Creek, Paterson and Vacy (the most recent ran 13–17 October 2025, limit 2 m³ per property, prunings tied in bundles). Garden waste is also accepted at the Dungog Waste Management Facility, where tip fees apply.
