Mayor & councillors

Dungog Shire is divided into three wards — A, B and C — each electing two councillors by proportional representation. On top of those six, voters across the whole shire directly elect the Mayor, making seven councillors in total. That popular mayoral vote is the main difference from most small rural councils, where the councillors pick the mayor from among themselves. The Deputy Mayor is chosen by the councillors. Below is who currently holds office, with the September 2024 election results.

Ordinary meetings, third Wednesday of the month, 6.00pmHeld in the Council Chambers, 198 Dowling Street, Dungog — except December (second Wednesday) and January (no meeting). Meetings are livestreamed; agendas and minutes are published on the council's website.

We list who's in office and link to their official profiles and the election results; we don't characterise anyone's politics. Party labels are those each councillor was elected under at the September 2024 election (NSW Electoral Commission) — five of the seven were declared with an Independent (IND) group code and Alexandria Carruthers with a Labor (ALP) code. The NSWEC results show no group code against Mayor Digby Rayward or Cr James Campbell, so their affiliation is left blank here rather than guessed. Casual vacancies can change the makeup, so the council's official page has the most current list.
