Elections & voting
NSW holds local government elections every four years. Voting is compulsory for enrolled residents, so it's worth knowing the date and keeping your enrolment up to date. In Dungog you cast two ballots: one for the two councillors in your ward, and one for the Mayor of the whole shire.

- Ward
- A subdivision of a council area that elects its own councillors.

- Three wards (A, B, C), 2 councillors each by proportional representation, plus a popularly elected MayorAt the 2024 election 7,565 electors were enrolled across the shire — 2,390 in Ward A, 2,639 in Ward B and 2,536 in Ward C. The Mayor was elected from 4 candidates under optional preferential voting; Ward A elected 2 from 6 candidates, Ward B 2 from 5, and Ward C 2 from 3.
