Waste & recycling

When your bins go out, and how Cowra Shire handles recycling and waste across the township and villages. Cowra runs a kerbside service — a red-lid general-waste bin collected weekly and a yellow-lid recycling bin collected fortnightly — to Cowra township and the villages of Darbys Falls, Wyangala, Woodstock, Wattamondara, Gooloogong, Noonbinna, Billimari and Morongla. A 2026 kerbside audit (funded by the NSW EPA, run jointly with Weddin and Hilltops councils) found current recycling diversion at 15.9%, with contamination a problem (around one in five items in recycling bins should be general waste); it estimated a future FOGO (food & garden organics) service could lift diversion to 59.3%. NSW requires all councils to offer FOGO by 2030. To find your collection day, use the council's recycling calendars or call the Materials Recycling Facility (MRF).

Cowra does not yet run a food-organics service; NSW requires one across all councils by 2030, and the council's own 2026 audit sets out the potential diversion gain. Bin frequencies, facility hours and fees can change — confirm your collection day and current fees on the official sources below.
