Cowra Shire Council
Area profile

Area profile

A quick snapshot of Cowra, drawn from official ABS estimates and the NSW Government's council data. Cowra Shire is a Central West LGA centred on the Lachlan River, with an economy built on agriculture (sheep, grain and livestock, plus vineyards). Cowra is also known internationally for the 1944 Cowra breakout — the largest prison escape of the Second World War, from a POW camp on the town's outskirts — commemorated today at the Cowra Japanese Garden and the World Peace Bell.
