Waste & recycling

How rubbish works in a shire of more than 45,000 km² with fewer than 5,000 people. Kerbside collection is a Cobar town service: the council collects one general-waste bin weekly, on the day shown on its domestic waste collection map. There is no kerbside recycling bin and no kerbside green/FOGO bin anywhere in the shire; the council says the cost of transporting recyclables out of Cobar is why, and points residents to the Cobar Waste Depot, which recycles metals, vegetation and oils on site. Outside Cobar, rateable properties within 5 km of Euabalong Post Office, Euabalong West Public School, Nymagee Police Station, Mount Hope Hotel or the Canbelego intersection of Edward and Coronga Streets pay an annual Waste Disposal Charge for tip access rather than a collection service. Bin collection at a glance

General waste (red lid)
Weekly (Cobar town collection area)Council collects domestic waste weekly on the day shown on its Garbage Collection map. Bins must be on the kerb and clear of obstructions the night before. The 2026-27 domestic waste charge is $340 per service per year for an occupied Cobar assessment ($325 in 2025-26); vacant Cobar land is $146.50.

Bulky / hard waste

Loads are taken to the depot; disposal fees are set in the adopted Fees and Charges. A casual bin empty can be booked at $25.00 per empty per bin (2026-27).
Problem waste & drop-off

The council does not list a Community Recycling Centre for household problem waste such as batteries, paint, chemicals or e-waste — check with the council before hauling those.

Kerbside collection is a Cobar town service; the villages of Euabalong, Euabalong West, Nymagee, Mount Hope and Canbelego are served by an annual Waste Disposal Charge ($146.50 in 2026-27) that covers tip access rather than a bin collection.
