Waste & recycling

The council collects kerbside bins in the townships of Maryborough, Carisbrook, Dunolly, Talbot and Bealiba, and in some rural areas. Households have a red-lid rubbish bin and a yellow-lid recycling bin. Urban households in Maryborough, Carisbrook, Dunolly and Talbot can also sign up, for a yearly fee, to a green-lid bin for garden waste and food scraps. The Victorian Government is standardising household bins across the state, and the council says the way you use your bins will change by July 2027.

Garden waste and food scraps
Optional green-lid bin (240 L) — 1st and 3rd Friday of each monthOffered to residents in the urban areas of Maryborough, Carisbrook, Dunolly and Talbot for a yearly charge ($96.68 in 2026–27, see Rates & fees). The ratepayer signs the application; tenants need their landlord's agreement. The collected material is made into bagged compost, offered free to participants when available. Hard rubbish
Booked kerbside collection in urban areas — second Tuesday of each monthBookings are essential: phone Veolia on 0407 009 716. Four of the waste vouchers sent with your rates notice cover up to one cubic metre; no single item over 2 metres long or 150 kg. Transfer stations (tips)
Carisbrook (125 Williams Rd) — Mon, Tue, Fri 10am–4.30pm, Sat–Sun 10am–4pm; Talbot (41 Rocky Flat Rd) and Dunolly (1656 Maryborough–Dunolly Rd) — Wed, Sat, Sun 9am–1pm; Bealiba (48 White Hills Rd) — Thu, Sat, Sun 9am–1pmTalbot, Dunolly and Bealiba open 8am–12pm during daylight saving. Bealiba takes no green waste. All close on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday and Anzac Day, and on Extreme and Catastrophic fire danger days. Domestic quantities only (loads under 3 cubic metres). Your rates notice includes eight waste vouchers, valid to 31 August 2027: a car-boot load is 1 voucher, other loads 2 vouchers per cubic metre. Lid colours, sizes and frequencies are as the council lists them on its pages in September 2026. The council's pages don't say which bin glass goes in; its Sustainable Waste Management Guide (2016) and Sustainability Victoria's 'Can I recycle this?' tool cover individual items. In the 2026–27 budget the council kept the Bealiba, Dunolly and Talbot transfer stations open after it had proposed closing them.
