Elections & voting
NSW holds local government elections every four years. Voting is compulsory for enrolled residents, so it's worth knowing the date and keeping your enrolment up to date. Carrathool is one of the smaller electorates in the state — about 1,800 electors were enrolled across its two wards in 2024.

- A subdivision of a council area that elects its own councillors.
- How the mayor is chosen
- Either elected directly by voters, or chosen by the councillors.

- Permission for a council to raise rates by more than the peg.

- Two wards; 5 councillors each by proportional representationWard A had 877 enrolled electors and elected 5 councillors from 6 candidates; Ward B had 923 enrolled electors and elected 5 councillors from 8 candidates (enrolment as at 5 August 2024). The councillors then elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor from among themselves.
