Waste & recycling

How Campaspe's bins work today. Each household can have one red bin for general waste, emptied every week, and yellow recycling bins, emptied every fortnight. In ten towns there is also a green bin for food and garden waste, emptied every fortnight. Glass bottles and jars can still go in the yellow bin; there is no separate glass bin, but every resource recovery centre has a free glass skip. Bin collection at a glance

General waste (red bin)
Weekly — 80, 140 or 240 litresOne red bin per household. For items that can't be recycled through the yellow or green bin, such as soft plastics, nappies, polystyrene and broken crockery; rubbish must be bagged or wrapped. It goes to landfill. A 240-litre bin is for families of six or more or for a medical condition. Bins over 75 kg aren't collected.What goes in the red bin →
Recycling (yellow bin)
Fortnightly — 140, 240 or 360 litresPaper and cardboard, hard plastic bottles and containers coded 1 to 6, steel and aluminium cans, and glass bottles and jars, all loose in the bin. Not soft plastics, drinking or window glass, clothing, batteries or electronics. A household can have as many yellow bins as it needs.What goes in the yellow bin →
Food and garden waste (green bin)
Fortnightly — 140 or 240 litres, in 10 townsAvailable to households in Echuca, Kyabram, Rochester, Tongala, Rushworth, Girgarre, Gunbower, Colbinabbin, Stanhope and Lockington. Takes all food waste, garden waste, branches under 100 mm across, tea bags and coffee grounds, and paper towels. Not plastic, glass, metal, nappies or coffee pods. Glass
In the yellow bin, or free glass skips at every resource recovery centreThe skips take glass bottles and jars with lids on, glass medicine bottles and glass toiletries. Not drinking glasses, window glass, kitchenware or perfume bottles. The council has no separate glass bin. It is one of 34 Victorian councils in the 'Let's be clear on glass' campaign, which asks the Victorian Government to pause the mid-2027 mandate for a fourth kerbside bin for glass and to expand the Container Deposit Scheme instead.Glass recycling →
Resource recovery centres
Eight: Echuca, Kyabram (Mt Scobie), Rochester, Rushworth, Colbinabbin, Gunbower, Lockington and ToolleenEchuca (510 McKenzie Road) is open Monday to Saturday 8am–4.45pm and Sunday 10am–3.45pm; the others open on set days only. All close on Good Friday, Anzac Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day; Colbinabbin, Gunbower, Lockington, Rushworth and Toolleen also close on catastrophic fire danger days. Most items are free. Ratepayers receive vouchers for items that otherwise carry a fee, such as garden organics, mattresses, fridges and tyres.Locations and hours →
Hard waste
