Shire profile

Campaspe Shire is in northern Victoria, on the Murray River. Its largest town, Echuca, sits near where the Goulburn and Campaspe rivers meet the Murray, facing Moama across the river in New South Wales (Murray River Council). The shire also takes in Kyabram, Rochester, Tongala and Rushworth, smaller towns including Lockington, Gunbower, Stanhope, Colbinabbin, Girgarre and Toolleen, and the irrigated farmland around them. It was formed in 1994 from the City of Echuca, the Town of Kyabram and the Shires of Rochester, Waranga and Deakin, and takes its name from the Campaspe River.
