Waste & recycling

When your bins go out, and how Broken Hill City Council handles recycling and problem waste. Unlike most NSW councils, Broken Hill runs a two-bin kerbside service, not three: a dark-green general-waste bin collected weekly, and a bright-green garden-organics bin collected fortnightly. There is no kerbside recycling (no yellow-lid recycling bin) — recyclables are taken to the council's Waste Management Facility, which operates a drop-off service. (A yellow-lid bin here means an assisted collection for residents who can't move their bin to the kerb, not recycling.) The green bin is garden organics only — the council does not run a combined food-and-garden (FOGO) service (the NSW-wide FOGO mandate is 2030). To find your collection day, use the council's collection-day lookup.
