The council's stated direction
Brimbank's direction is set by 'We are Brimbank', which combines the Community Vision 2050, the Council Plan 2025–2029 and the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan. Each year it is carried out through an Annual Action Plan and Budget, and the council publishes quarterly progress reports.
The Council Plan has four strategic directions: People, Places, Prosperity, and Leadership and Governance. The council's stated aim is 'a proud and vibrant Brimbank that is beautiful, thriving, healthy and connected'. The 2026/2027 Annual Action Plan, the second year of the Plan, has 67 key actions.
The 2026–27 budget, adopted on 16 June 2026, plans $72.48 million of capital works. That includes $23.97m on roads, bridges and drainage and $19.52m on community buildings. The council names its advocacy priorities as the Fix Taylors Road campaign, the Sunshine Super Hub, Albion Quarter and Wominjeka Plaza.

Dempster Park Children's and Community Centre, Sunshine North
Construction began Jul 2026An approximately $9 million centre with two kindergarten rooms (66 places), maternal and child health rooms, a family space and a community hall. Jointly funded by the council and the Victorian Government's Best Start, Best Life reforms.

4-bin waste and recycling service
From 1 Jul 2027; glass bin under reviewWeekly food and garden organics for all households and a new monthly glass bin, under the state's waste reforms. In May 2026 the council asked for a report on options for the glass bin, including whether it can be delayed, changed or not introduced.

Green Gully Reserve stormwater harvesting
Funding announced Jun 2026A $1.6 million stormwater harvesting and irrigation upgrade at Green Gully Reserve, Keilor Downs, to cut the reserve's use of drinking water. DEECA committed $400,000, and Greater Western Water is partnering with the council.

Sydenham Basin Reserve dog off-leash area upgrade
Opened Sep 2026The upgraded off-leash area has dog play equipment, accessible paths, two shelters, a picnic area, drinking fountains and a mural. The reserve also works as a stormwater retarding basin and has native grassland. Jointly funded by the Victorian Government (DEECA) and the council.

Sunshine community battery
Switched on Jul 2026The council's first community battery, in Gresham Way Reserve, Sunshine West, stores rooftop solar for use at peak times. The council received $500,000 from the Federal Government's Community Batteries for Household Solar program.
