Waste & recycling

When your bin goes out, and how Brewarrina Shire handles waste across Brewarrina, Goodooga and Gongolgon. Unlike most NSW councils, Brewarrina runs a single general-waste kerbside service on a fixed day per town rather than a three-bin system: there is no yellow kerbside recycling bin and no green food-and-garden-organics bin here. Recycling is handled at the two council waste depots and by arrangement for metals and used oils. Bins are the resident's own — the council collects them but does not supply them.

Bin collection at a glance

General waste (red lid)
Weekly — Brewarrina Thursday; Gongolgon and Goodooga WednesdayCommercial premises are collected Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Bins must be out on the gutter in front of the house the night before your collection day. The council notes that garbage bins are the resident's responsibility and can be bought from the local hardware store.
Recycling (yellow lid)
No kerbside recycling binThe council does not run a kerbside recycling collection. It has facilities to manage the recycling of metal and used automotive oils — phone (02) 6830 5100 or email breshire@brewarrina.nsw.gov.au to arrange drop-off.
Food & garden organics (green lid)
Not offeredThere is no FOGO or green-lidded organics service in the Brewarrina Shire. Garden waste goes to the waste depots.
Bulky / hard waste
No kerbside cleanup — self-haul to a depot insteadThe council does not run a bulky-waste kerbside collection. General household waste can be dropped at either depot free of charge; fees apply for non-residential waste including commercial and building waste, asbestos and tyres (see the council's Fees and Charges report).
Problem waste & drop-off
Brewarrina Waste Depot, Charleton Road — open 7 days, 7:00am–6:00pmA second facility, the Goodooga Waste Depot on Queensland Street, is also open seven days a week. Metal and used automotive oil recycling is arranged through the council. Angledool has a tip-maintenance charge rather than a kerbside service.
Find your bin day
Fixed day by town — see the council's Waste & Recycling page, or call (02) 6830 5100There is no address-lookup tool: the council publishes the collection day for each town directly. See the link below.

Kerbside collection is available in Brewarrina, Gongolgon and Goodooga; properties outside those towns use the depots. Frequencies, depot hours and gate fees can change — confirm on the official sources below before you make the trip. The council's 2026/27 Operational Plan also notes that the existing Brewarrina landfill has reached capacity and a replacement waste cell is being procured (see Priorities & direction).
