Brewarrina Shire has an elected council — there is no state-appointed administrator. It is an undivided (at-large) council: its nine councillors are elected across the whole local government area by proportional representation, rather than by ward. The councillors elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor from among themselves; Brewarrina does not have a popularly elected mayor. Ordinary meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 10am in the Council Chambers, with business papers, minutes and recordings published online. Casual vacancies
Filled by countback of the 2024 election, not by by-electionAt its first ordinary meeting after the September 2024 election the council resolved that any vacancy would be filled by countback. One vacancy has since arisen: the seat became vacant following the death of Cr Angelo Pippos in December 2024, and Cr Isaac Gordon was declared elected in a NSW Electoral Commission countback on 11 June 2025 and sworn in at the ordinary meeting of 24 June 2025.

We list who's in office and link to their official profiles and the election results; we don't characterise anyone's politics. Party labels are those each councillor was elected under at the September 2024 election (NSW Electoral Commission) — six of the nine declared elected carried an Independent (IND) code and one carried The Greens NSW (GRN). The NSWEC results show no group code for Vivian Slack-Smith, so her affiliation is left blank here rather than guessed. Isaac Gordon was not among the nine declared in October 2024; he was declared elected by countback in June 2025, and no party label is published for that declaration, so his affiliation is also left blank. Casual vacancies can change the makeup, so the council's official page has the most current list. Note that the council's councillors page still carries biography panels for several councillors from earlier terms alongside the current nine — the sub-menu on that page is the current list.
