Balranald Shire runs a single-bin kerbside service. Households get one 240-litre red-lidded general-waste bin, collected weekly by contractor BDS Automotive — Mondays in Balranald, Fridays in Euston. There is no yellow recycling bin and no green organics bin: the council's own Waste Management Strategy 2025–2035 states that "No kerbside recycling or FOGO service currently exists", so recyclables currently travel in the red bin. What that means in practice is that most sorting happens at the two council landfill/transfer stations, at Balranald and at Euston, where green waste is free for residents and there are free receptacles for plastic bottles and aluminium cans at the entrance. Bin collection at a glance

General waste (red lid): Weekly — Balranald Mondays, Euston FridaysOne 240-litre red-lidded bin per residential occupancy, collected by contractor BDS Automotive. Balranald collection runs from about 5am; Euston from about 10am. Put the bin out the night before, and don't overfill it — the council states that bins whose lids will not fully close are not collected.
Recycling (yellow lid): Not offered — there is no kerbside recycling binThe council's Waste Management Strategy 2025–2035 records that no kerbside recycling service currently exists and that the red bin contains "a mix of residual waste and recyclables". Both landfills have free receptacles for plastic bottles and aluminium cans at the entrance, plus stockpiles for metals, building materials, e-waste and white goods. Drink containers can also be redeemed through Return and Earn at the Balranald Takeaway on Market Street.
Food & garden organics (green lid): Not offered — there is no kerbside FOGO or green binGreen waste can be dropped at either landfill free of charge by residents, where it is stockpiled for shredding. The Waste Management Strategy recommends the council investigate FOGO options — including home composting, opt-in collection and community bins — and develop a business case; no service has been committed to as at the date of that strategy.
Bulky / hard waste: No regular kerbside clean-up — self-haul with tip tokensThe council's waste page states "Council has not scheduled any Kerbside collections for 2024" and that any future date would be advertised in the newsletter and by flyer; it also refers to fee-free tip weekends for domestic waste. Otherwise loads go to the landfill using $16 tip tokens (one axle trailer of general waste = 1 token, two axle = 2 tokens, single mattress = 1, double = 2). Mixed non-compactable waste is $160 per tonne.
Problem waste & drop-off: Balranald Landfill and Euston Landfill / Transfer StationBoth sites take e-waste and white goods, metals, building materials, tyres, batteries, motor oil and non-friable asbestos ($260 per cubic metre plus burial fee); drumMuster chemical containers are free by appointment. Balranald opens Tue and Thu 4–6pm, Sat 10am–1pm, Sun 10am–3pm; Euston opens Tue and Thu 1–6pm, Sun 9am–3pm. Hours can change in wet weather. There is no Community Recycling Centre in the shire yet — the Waste Management Strategy recommends investigating one at either landfill.

Kerbside collection is available along the collection routes in Balranald and Euston; the domestic waste charge is levied on residential occupancies for which the service is available. Frequencies, fees, tip-token prices and landfill hours change — confirm on the official sources below before you load a trailer. The council adopted a Waste Management Strategy for 2025–2035 with 13 priority areas, and has budgeted in 2026–27 to begin acting on them, including a detailed review of waste service charges, so this service may change.
