Waste & recycling
Alpine's kerbside service depends on where you live. Urban properties have three bins: a green-lid food and garden organics (FOGO) bin collected every week, and a red-lid rubbish bin and yellow-lid recycling bin collected on alternate fortnights. Rural properties on a collection route have rubbish and recycling collected fortnightly, with no FOGO bin — garden waste goes to a transfer station. Dinner Plain has its own service using roadside hutches. The council says kerbside collection is compulsory within its collection areas, with no option to opt out.

- Dinner Plain
- Roadside waste and recycling hutches, baggedEvery Dinner Plain property must have a roadside hutch; waste and recycling go in the bags provided, tied off, with the hutch door closed. Dinner Plain has its own charge on the rates notice.
- Transfer stations
- Mount Beauty, Myrtleford and Porepunkah, 10am–2pmMount Beauty (Maddisons Lane) and Myrtleford (Morrisons Lane): Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Porepunkah (off Roberts Creek Road): Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Closed Anzac Day, Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Loads must be sorted (unsorted loads are refused or charged at the hard-waste rate); no more than 2 m³ of any one material a day; no tipping trailers. Asbestos is accepted at Porepunkah only, by booking. Free mulch when available.Transfer stations →

Bin colours, sizes and frequencies are from the council's Waste Services Policy and waste pages (September 2026). 2026–27 charges on your rates notice: rubbish 80 L fortnightly $67.89 (240 L fortnightly $203.68); recycling 240 L fortnightly $91.47; FOGO 240 L weekly $123.35; plus a waste management charge of $298.00 on every assessment, which funds transfer stations, public bins, closed-landfill works and waste education. So a standard urban three-bin service comes to $580.71 a year and a standard rural two-bin service to $457.36, each including the waste management charge (our sums). The Dinner Plain standard service is $760.03.
